My name is Mary Beth Maes. I teach first grade at Nativity and have been teaching for 26 years. I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado.
My favorite subject to teach is reading. I love watching the “light bulbs” go off when the kids “get it!” I enjoy coming to school every day and can’t imagine not talking to the first graders about God throughout the week. I believe every child can learn and has the potential to succeed. Every student is an individual and has their own unique learning style. Learning should be authentic and student-centered. It should be interactive, creative, engaging, and with a good dose of humor thrown in! The classroom should be a safe, stimulating, and inviting environment. Kids don’t care what you know until they know that you care!
I am married to my husband, Herb, and I am a proud cancer survivor. We were blessed with one daughter, who attended Nativity from kindergarten through eighth grade. I have a Yorkie named Biscuit, who is 16 years old. I love the Broncos, working in my yard, and going up to Black Hawk. One of the things on my bucket list is to watch every episode of “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
